Owning a pet is a lot of responsibility. They need to be cared for everyday. I use to think that people who sold their pets were horrible. Why would you give a pet a warm loving home and then snatch it away from them. I didn’t understand why until now.
There is a bond developing between you and your pet that will grow daily. With this bond will come a love like nothing else in your life. When you are having a horrible day at work coming home to your pet will forget about what happened before you walked in the door. With that kind of love comes honesty. If you love your pet and can no longer provide the kind of home it deserves due to financial or medical reasons, then it is your responsibility to find a home that will be better suited for them.
The best way to handle this is to advertise. Be honest and write from the heart. Tell all the wonderful things about your pet and also the naughty funny little things they do as well. Have a list of questions that you want to ask so that you can eliminate the people that you feel are not worthy of taking care of your pet. Remember, this is not a door knob but a pet that you love and has a piece of your heart. Even though you can no longer provide for them, you are looking for the best place for them to be. Invite interested parties to your place and witness the interaction between your pet and perspective buyers. This also gives you a chance for you to interact with them as well. You need to be comfortable with your choice as well. Once you have interviewed and decided on a few people that might be suited to take care of your pet, ask them if you can visit their homes to see where your pet will living. This will give you added comfort on knowing that you made the right decision.
During these economic hard times, we are being forced to do things that we would not even consider years ago. I admire and respect anyone who is honest enough to make such a difficult decision such as this one.
I hope I never have to make a decision such as this one.
